Kill Termites Inside Trees
How To Save Trees From Termite Damage Without Using Chemicals
Contrary to popular belief, termites can infest live trees, especially old or unhealthy trees that harbor dead cellulose. Infestations can take root long before trees begin to show termite damage, so an aggressive maintenance program is vital for properties that display evidence of termite activity.
To kill termites inside trees, you’ll need a strong organic pesticide that doesn’t cause chemical damage to plant life. A good cedar oil formulation is ideal because it’s strong enough to kill insects and break egg layer cycles without harming vegetation. Apply our outdoor concentrate with a hose end sprayer, paying special attention to suspicious looking holes that could be termite galleries. Termite galleries are spaces within wood that termites have hollowed out. Be sure to soak healthy tree branches and remove any dead branches, especially those that touch your home.
As termites begin to evacuate trees, they will crawl across the ground to look for new food sources. To keep them from infesting surrounding trees or structures, dig a shallow trench around the perimeter of the treated tree. Fill the trench with cotton balls or cardboard soaked in a solution of boric acid and corn syrup. Cotton balls are the most pure and easily digestible form of cellulose available. Termites will readily ingest tainted cotton fibers and share the toxins with the colony. (Note: Boric acid can kill plants. For direct treatment of vegetation, always use an organic concentrate.)
It’s also very important to treat wood fences and decks with a strong penetrant. Typical wood sealants are simply coatings that sit on top of wood surfaces. You can literally see our exclusive formula leeching into wood and traveling through capillaries. One lifetime treatment penetrates DEEP to seal wood, kill insects and trigger wood petrification. The product is designed to eliminate splitting, cupping, checking and wood expansion by preventing water absorption. The absence of water equals the absence of all fungal and insect issues.
Total penetration of wood, stone and concrete is achieved while delivering a lethal dose of specially modified cedar oil to the termite or ant species living inside or below the material surface.
In the world of termite control, there are instances where you’ll need effective bait to attract termites and instances where you’ll need pesticides to kill or repel termites. For filling trenches around homes and trees, a good bait is indispensible. For soaking mulch and other landscaping materials, a strong organic pesticide is vital. Old and decaying mulch can become a highly sustainable food source for termites. To recharge the pesticide properties of old cedar mulch, soak it with our concentrated cedar oil solution.
Do not mistake the wood penetrant product for the liquid pest control formula. One is a wood sealant designed specifically for application to decks, fences, wood beams and wood siding. The other is an organic treatment for vegetation. If you have pets that enjoy playing outdoors, you’ll be happy to know that our organic concentrate also kills fleas, ticks and mites within the grass and helps break the egg layer cycle to prevent future generations.
