Kill Cabbage Maggots
Kill Cabbage Root Maggots Naturally Without Chemical Pesticides Using Our Organic Cedar Oil Insecticide
An enemy to farmers in the northwest zones of the United States, cabbage root maggots are the larval stage of the cabbage root fly. Cabbage root flies are grey insects that resemble houseflies, but they tend to be more slender and fragile. After laying their eggs at the base of cool weather plants, the eggs hatch into small white legless worms.
Since cabbage root flies hatch and feed underneath the soil, they are difficult to control. Row covers can prevent new flies from entering specific territories, but they do nothing to kill eggs or wipe out existing maggots feeding on the roots of plants. For this reason, it’s beneficial to soak the soil with a good organic pesticide that won’t destroy vegetables, taint crops and eventually harm humans.
While many essential oils are used against cabbage maggots in organic farming applications, our cedar oil formulation is among the most powerful. Cedar oil is a BASE NOTE. In the world of aroma therapy and perfume making, a top note is defined as the first scent you detect in a perfume blend. The base note is the lingering essence that stays with you long after the top note has faded!
Signs and Symptoms of Cabbage Maggot Infestation
If the leaves of a plant start to wilt, check the roots for cabbage root maggots. Run your fingers gently through the top layers of the soil near the base of your plants. As with most maggots, cabbage maggots clump in groups and feed upon root systems. Eggs will be oblong, about 1/8 inch in size, and laid in rows. Sometimes, you may notice a very slight blue or yellowish cast upon leaves. Eggs can only hatch in cool weather, which is why cabbage root maggots tend to attack cool weather crops, also known as cole crops. Cabbage root maggots mostly attack the following vegetables:
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Broccoli
- Beets
- Brussel Sprouts
- Cabbages
- Turnips
- Rutabagas
Our Formula Works in Many Ways:
- Repels a wide variety of insects with an intense cedar aroma
- Erodes the exoskeleton of insects, contributing to early demise
- Dissolves eggs on contact, but not by proximity. (Eggs must come in direct contact with the formula, not just the vapors.)
- Masks the scent trails that many insects use to communicate, coordinate and flourish
- Discourages new insects from moving into treated territory
